New Technology Emerges and provides noise reduction that is just like being in the same room when the music is being made.

One of the most annoying problems when listening to music on headphones is background noise. If you travel back and forth to your job, this takes lots of forms, the noise of traffic, the noise of the train, the noise of passengers near you yelling into their cell phones at 6:00AM, you get the thought. At home, this noise can be lawn mowers, crying babies, yelling children, air conditioners, fans, persons looking at tv, etc. The sources of noise are pretty much endless. Welcome to the modern times. To address our continually increasingly noisy world, noise cancellation headphones were invented. Now all we have to do is turn a switch on the headphones and all of a sudden all goes hushed. So we are able to listen to our favorite music unaffected by the sounds around us.

That is the idea anyway, in real life it doesn't seam to follow suit. You have good noise cancellation headphones and not-so-good ones. The bad ones sound really bad and only mute the outside noise a little and eat up batteries. To be successful at canceling noise, everything must be in order. The lower the quality on any one component, the less effective the noise reducing will be. So how do they work? Well the headset has a little circuit inside it that listens to the outside noise. It then makes the exact opposite noise and plays it through the headphones along with the music. The noise from the outside plus the sound inserted from the noise canceling circuit will cancel each other out at your ear and you will hear music without the noise. How successful this is in reality varies wildly with different headsets. Another point worth talking about is that high price doesnt always mean better performance. Some very high priced headphones out there are not very good at noise reduction. You should put a set on and try them out before buying. This task is best done in a store, not experianceing and sending back every headset in a catalog online.

Last, but certainly not least, when evaluating noise cancellation headphones, make note of the estimated battery life. If you arent getting at least 20 hours or so on a single set of batteries, you are going to need a lot of batteries. If the best set of headphones is a battery cruncher, though, I guess its time to get rechargeable batteries.

If I were smart I would be telling you where to buy batteries, wouldn't I? So maybe I will in another post. In the mean time check out the headphones and see which one you want. Then check the batteries usage and get the best you can afford.
