RECENT ARTICLE Gps Tracking Watch AccuracyGPS Tracking Watches also commonly referred to as GPS Runners Watches use the same technology that was developed by the military many years ago. Over the years, the number of satellites has increased and the intentional degradation (for security reasons) of the signal has been eliminated. That along with the technological improvements in the receivers has resulted in better performance and accuracy than ever before. These units are used by a great many exercise enthusiasts, runners, walkers, cyclers climbers and so on. The units combine a digital time piece and GPS receiver to perform a number of calculations. Some products also include features to monitor heart rate, cycling cadence counters and more. Most all GPS units provide information on exact location, direction, distance, speed compass heading and averages for the above. They can be very useful for users who are traveling in an unfamiliar area or for hiking on unmarked trails. While the mapping features are rudimentary compared to a GPS unit in an automobile they can be very useful to backtrack your way to the starting point. Some people have questioned the accuracy potential of these units. We have tested GPS watches made by Garmin, Timex and Suunto and in general they are more than accurate enough to be of great value. In fact, you could make a strong argument that these units could be a very valuable safety devices that any hiker of runner should carry especially when in unfamiliar terrain. The accuracy and available functions could also be a real benefit to prevent over doing a workout. For example, you set an alarm to sound at a set distance or time which could represent your halfway point and you know it is time to return to your beginning point. Many exercise watches also include or are compatible with computer software programs quite useful in analyzing your workout. Using these programs may reveal the most common accuracy issue. For instance, lets say you want to look at your actual pace at a given point in time. The readings you get will probably fluctuate a bit more than might be ideal. This can be a product in the update rate of the actual position. The shorter the time period examined the less accuracy. Most all units we have used have had excellent accuracy overall to the point that it is a non-issue. The performance and usefulness of these GPS tracking systems has led more and more people to rely on them. So, if you are thinking about purchasing a GPS tracking watch you should feel confident that the performance and features currently available should more than satisfy most people. Give some thought to whether you want an all in one type or one where the watch and GPS receiver are separate from each other. Those produced by Timex usually fall into the latter group while Garmin and Suunto have focused on all in one models. Article Source: http://www.articlesnatch.com About the Author: |
